Barbara Krulik:
'... DISAPPEARING INTO THE STREET
The installation PresentPerfectContinuous will be located on the charming square across from the University of Cartagena. Surrounded by cafes, shops and in an intimate park-like atmosphere, the ‘autonomous theatrical object’ of Gijs van Bon, commissioned for this biennial, writes with sand from the beaches of Cartagena. Dreams and poems are taken from diaries and journals written by Cartagena’s inhabitants. The installation writes in a slow pace each paragraph letter by letter. After each section is complete, the sand will be swept aside so that the machine can continue with then new entry. On the side of the square will be receptacles for the sand - the residue of thoughts and dreams. The last section will be left to it’s fate. The words over time will drift away with the wind and foot traffic in a poetic manner dealing with memory and its fragility. Each week the installation will be reset with new texts. ...'
